The b-bar

I have heard amazing things about the exciting b-bar in Plymouth's barbarian. this theatre come Thai restaurant has received rave reviews and hosts an excellent line up of comedy nights, acoustic nights and even the odd cabaret session.
Many of my friends have been here before and have all had lovely things to say: Unfortunately I could not say the same on my visit. Even though the atmosphere was lovely with local art work on display, jazz music playing in the background, we had to seat our self as the waitress completely ignored us. as we were the only customers in the restaurant you would have thought they would have made a bit of an effort.
When the waitress did approach our table, she was wearing flip flops. As a chef I know this to be a breach of basic health and hygiene. After we ordered we were asked to pay immediately. I felt this to be judgemental and a little rude.

The food was well presented and cooked beautifully. The Gaen Keow Wan (Thai green curry), priced at 6.95 was delicious, and reasonably priced for the portion size. The pad mee saw (King prawn noodles) at £6.45 was again a very large portion for the price, was was cooked very well.

Around 10 minutes later the chef came out of the kitchen wearing no shoes at all! This completely put me off my food. I don't think I will be returning to the B-Bar for food. I think for performances and drinks this place is excellently placed and situated, even though the standard of food hygiene needs some work.

The Barbican steak house.

Situated at the end of the Barbican on Notte street this cosy little place was probably the best place for customer service I have ever visited.
The atmosphere was lovely and homely, with scented candles being burnt and music played quietly. the 1 waiter on shift that night was a delight. friendly, helpful but not pushy- professional to an end. He knew the menu and the extensive wine list inside out.

The starters consisted of:

Stuffed Jalapeños
Chicken strips
Marinated olives with toasted ciabatta and balsamic vinegar
Nachos

Mains:
Butter nut squash and spinach tart

Choice chicken
10 oz rump steak medium rare
16 oz T bone steak medium

Desset:
Oreo cheesecake

sticky toffee with ice cream

Creme brule

The simplicity of the menu meant that each item is cooked perfectly and made fresh to order.
The overall visit was excellent, excellent food, impeccable service and the cleanliness was of a very high standard.
Overall the Barbican steak house is well worth a second visit.

Cafe Kiss

My experience at Cafe Kiss was mixed. The decor and atmosphere of the cafe is overall lovely. With comfy seats, sofas a selection of books and game boards make the place fell homely and warm.
The location of the cafe is slightly off base for the clientele they are aiming for.
When me and a friend arrived for lunch, we were the only customers in the premises, and were disappointed by the customer service we received. The hot drinks were well made and beautifully presented.
For lunch we ordered the home made lentil burgers, at 7. 50 for one I had high expectations of what we were going to receive. The other options on the menu were varied with a lot of gluten free, vegetation and home made options which i found refreshing.

Although we were the only customers there we waited 45 minutes for our food. When the food arrived the food was thrown on our table, with no cutlery, not even an "enjoy your meal", For the money we had paid I found this unacceptable. The food looked like slop on a plate, with a sainsbury's basic burger bun, with a side salad that consisted of one piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato.
Me and my friend were so disappointed and slightly angered at the service and quality of food that we asked for a full refund and left swiftly.

The Caffeine Club

What a appointment.
Plymouth's newest 24 hour restaurant / Bar, has come with high expectations but has unfortunately not lived up to it's name.

Fanta and a Berry blast smoothie.
The only nice part of our meal.

The veggie breakfast, the sausage were still frozen in the middle, and the egg was blackened at the edges- the grill had not been cleaned in a while.

The staff have no idea what there doing let along how to make a coffee.
The wait was long for service and for food. When I arrived at the till the service was rude and slow.
Drinks arrived around 25 minutes after ordering, even though It was not busy, food arrived 15 minutes apart from each other. By the time my meal arrived by boyfriends meal was freezing cold.

I had to return mine as the food was still frozen in the middle. When it was returned I was offered no replacement,  no refund or even an apology. I find this to be unacceptable, considering the prices of the food and drinks in here.
I can understand that new places have some teething issues at first but this is ridiculous.

It seems a lot of money and effort has gone into the overall decoration and atmosphere of the place but no staff training has been given and the management is lacking.

Chocaccino

This place is an absolute delight. Beautifully decorated with home made cakes, chocolates, and a wide range of delicious hot chocolates.
Perfectly located on the Barbican this wonderful place hosts a delicious selection of hand made cakes and chocolates all made on the premises.
On offer when i visited were two types of cheese cakes, rocky road, treacle tart, carrot cake, chocolate fudge cake and a classic sponge. All looked lovely and fresh.

I had a slice of the chocolate fudge cake (My favorite)  while a friend had a slice of the carrot cake. each were 2.30 a slice, amazing value for money.

This family run place is a delight and comes highly recommended.

Seafood and Pasta Bar.

This Lovely little piece of alfresco dining right on the Water front is just what Plymouth needs.
We arrived at lunch time on a Wednesday afternoon and ordered off the lunchtime menu.
The waiter could not have been more friendly, impeccable service throughout our visit.
Me and my friend ordered a home made burger and the crayfish and sweet chilli sandwich. Both arrived promptly and well presented. The burger was cooked to perfection and even the home made chips were a breath of fresh air.

The decor was simple yet smart and clean, and the service was excellent, a lovely and enjoyable lunch for both of us. I would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a delicious yet affordable lunch time snack.
